The question is do the requirements of this benchmark require that you 
avoid exceptions. Generally you need to have an exception case anyway 
(for any non-trivial file) to handle files with bad termination conditions.

It looks to me like the problem definition here would encourage that you 
do this "normal" processing without relying exceptions for the 
termination case.

So I tend to agree with Ed.
