'Measurable' in the definition of random variable has little to do with
measurements, e.g. physical measurements. It means a that the sets returned
by the function (random variable is a function) are measurable:

BTW, program crash is certainly not a random variable in most cases. The
only case when crash would be random is when the input is random, e.g.

   program Random_Crash is
      X : Dice;
   begin
      X := Read_From_Hardware_Random_Generator;
      if X then
         Execute ("format C: /q");
      end if;
   end Random_Crash;
