Where is the email gateway for comp.lang.ada? The Ada IC website
(http://www.adaic.org/links/news.html) says it's at
http://ada.eu.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/comp.lang.ada, but that
site says "no such list comp.lang.ada".

I'd like access to comp.lang.ada from home, which basically means
using the email gateway.

I moved it to http://www.ada-france.org/mailman/listinfo/comp.lang.ada

Why couldn't you use Usenet news from home?

Thanks, I hadn't been able to find it to update adaic.org (I knew the other
link was broken). I'll put that on my todo list.

Thanks.

I was going to let Randy know, to update the Ada IC website, but I see
he's listening here :).

I can't find a newsserver that carries it that also lets me have
access.

I've also seen some convincing editorials that say mailing lists are a
more efficient use of resources when distributing this kind of thing.

Maybe you can send him an email anyway, as I already posted the new
address a few times here :)

If you register the mailing list to gmane.org, you can then
access and post to that list using NNTP (usenet news), if you
find that usenet news is more convenient for you.

Threading doesn't work right in _some_
e-mail clients but one advantage of e-mail
over Usenet is that you can use Bayesian
statistical analysis to filter out trolls.

This would make no sense to register the comp.lang.ada gateway
mailing-list to gmane.org in order to make it a newsgroup again :/

Finding an open NNTP server is not hard at all, most ISP do provide
one, and volunteers can open a password-protected access to
individuals if needed.

It only make sense if you are desparate (agreed). But he
sounded desperate to me.

I don't know of any ISPs locally that have open NNTP services. Here,
not only are the SMTP and NNTP servers carefully protected, but
they monitor _you_ to make sure that you don't burden their
network with NNTP services that you might give away ;) !

They even monitor home based web servers. They will allow it
if you sign up for a "business class" service, which requires
more $ outlay. ;-)

Having to delete mail to catch up doesn't work
efficiently for me. NNTP allows articles to
expire if you don't get around to them. This is
much better if you subscribe to many groups,
for part time participation.
