Missing export in OA SE 7.2.1

Missing export in OA SE 7.2.1

Greetings,

I wonder if someone could help me with  a problem installing the OA SE 7.2.1
(Core download
from the Aonix site). It downloaded and unzipped fine with no problem, but,
trying to run it I get
a couple of errors:

Error Starting Program
The OA.EXE is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL:6880

And:

A device attached to the system is not functioning


I suspect the second one is just an induced error due to the first, but
what's wrong with that MFC thing?
For the record - I got the latest upgrade from the MS site, (un and
re)registered that DLL, put it in the path
and what not but it still doesn't want to start. W98 system, the same
installation works fine on W95 or NT.
I'm not quite ready yet to reinstall the whole OS and all the apps so just
wanted to check if anyone had the
same problem and what was the solution?
