Actually I yesterday heard (after our university got attacked by the
MSBlast worm) that for one of our large equipments it was not allowed to
install windows updates because the program that controlled the
equipment (which is used for scientific work) would break. I told the
person in charge to contact the company and get the software fixed as we
cannot have a machine which is online so vunerable. Of course my point
is that the machine should not be online at all, but that is not so easy
to get through.
