In order to support GNAT, the gcc front-end should be recompiled (i.e. you
should recompile gcc); the problem is that the version you installed from
the CD-ROM wasn't compiled with GNAT support included.

NOTE: Many GNAT binary distributions include a replacement for your gcc (often
called xgcc), that is installed over gcc and add support for GNAT (NOTE: this
way you can lose support for other languages - for instance, Obj-C or
Fortran 77 - if the gcc replacement wasn't compiled with support for those
languages enabled).
