My preference for implementing such a system would be to have a
pre-compiler that compiles the basic table definitions into Ada code
that can be compiled with the rest of the application (e.g. like IDL
compilers).
That way you get static type checking, minimal run-time overhead, etc.
However, I suspect that I just turned off a lot of people who don't
like pre-compilers.
