This unit of traffic measure was named in honor
of Agner Krarup Erlang (1878 -1929) who was a Danish
mathematician who developed a theory of stochastic processes
in statistical equilibrium widely used in the telecommunications
industry.

So the same as in Ada case the Erlang language was named after
famous person.

It is interesting to note that it's syntax is close to that used in Prolog.
