Does anybody know the implementation details of? In particular does it 
use shared memory and named events/semaphores for communication. Or it 
is always a socket (maybe pipe)?

It seems highly likely that someone does, since someone implemented it. :-) 
Unless of course that person is deceased.

You probably are more interested if anyone here has such knowledge. That 
seems substantially less likely. :-)
