Hi happy Ada novelers,
I was seeking for simply an Eclipse Ada colorizer (not that I don't enjoy
GPS or AdaGIDE, this is just to have a more seamless environment when
modeling comes in the place, and I will use Eclipse tools for that), when
I learned (again), about AonixADT, which seems to be now part of the
code-base of an Eclipse project named... Hibachi (Ichbiah's name anagram,
so named in memory of Ichbiah).
The (old) proposal page is there:
http://www.eclipse.org/hibachi/
The later project page is here:
http://www.eclipse.org/hibachi/
And then, the download page:
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/hibachi/downloads/index.html
Looking at the download page, I see the last update is dated 2008. I am
not aware of typical life cycle in the area of Ada tools nor in the area
of Eclipse tools ; I just know two years without an update in an
incomplete project is mostly an alarm in typical software project. I
wanted to know what's the state of this project. Is there any involved
parties here who could provide some notices about it ?
Also, I noted there is no update-site for this project (update-sites seems
to be the preferred way to install anything in Eclipse).
I've tried something like http://download.eclipse.org/tools/hibachi , but
it failed (Eclipse complained it found no software located on this
address).
Is there a known update-site for Hibachi ? (possibly I did a wrong guess
with the address I tried to figure)
Have a nice time all, and happy designing (or happy modeling, lol)

While although marked as in Incubation stage since at least two years and
the download page says some stuffs are not yet available, it seems to not
be so much incomplete to me after a quick overview. Funny I've never seen
any talk in C.L.A. about this environment. Looks worth trying (Yes, I know
Eclipse is Java, but this is an IDE, “just” an IDE).
And this is an another opportunity to push Ada in Java shops LOL
There was a pseudo-bug report opened for this project, standing for a
poll. During the voting, a sentence from someone makes me laugh (gently).
Look at
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=202794
where someone said “Surprising how many people still write programs in
Ada.” [dated 2007-09-17] (no-no, I am not trolling, I just play sharing
funny things).

Little note: do not use dot notation for project name if you use GNAT to
compile, or else it will complain “project Foo does not extends project
Bar”.
It generates GPR files, and can be configured to use GPR library; so don't
be afraid to be sticked to an incompatible environment.
I just wonder why there is an Ada Navigator, which is mostly redundant
with the Project Explorer. Wonder why this Ada Navigator was not designed
on top of the Project Explorer. Alternatively, what the Ada Navigator
displays for an Ada file, could have also been located in the Outliner.
There is three tabs, with redundancy, where two tabs may have been enough
(while I may possibly miss something, I know).

This is a different project, isn't it ? There seems to be no reference
there to AonixADT.
Just heard about NetBean IDE, but never tried. Will have a look at it, at
least to learn.
Thanks for the point.

I found one in the doc coming with the installed package, but I am not
sure this one is good.
First the link to be (may be) entered as an update-site:
http://www.aonix.com/adt_update
The doubt: it says Aonix ADT version 3.2.3, and do not say anymore
Habachi. So I do not know it this is really an update-site for Habachi or
else a different application (may conflict if it is indeed a different
application).
Do someone know about this update-site ? Which one should be used ?
Or may be this one is for users with commercial support ? (I know there is
a commercial Aonix ADT beside of Habachi).

I could write more but it sufficient to say Hibachi was (effectively)
stillborn and remains quite dead. If you want to use GNAT with
Eclipse 3.5.2 as the IDE then get GNATbench 2.4.0 from the GNAT GPL
site. GNATbench 2.4 works quite well and supports SPARK.

Oops, my error. I overlooked the reference to AonixADT. The Ada Plugins
for NetBeans project says it supports GNAT (85%) & JGNAT (50%).

I also use Xcode and Eclipse, but NetBeans is my favorite. I hate coming
to depend on an IDE, but consistently formatted code is just plain
easier to read.
