Anyone know the status of the new Ada compiler? Is it called Ada2x? I
remember reading about it on here before but I didn't keep the mailings from
the past. Is there a website? Thanks,

Andrew C.

Who are making it? Or are you perhaps confusing the new Ada language
version usually referred to as Ada0X or Ada200X etc?

Hmmm, must be the Ada language version I am thinking of. Is it Ada0X or
Ada200X? Any links?

Thanks

Yes; they are both the same :)

SigAda letters in Sept 2003 has a nice preview of changes under consideration:
http://www.acm.org/sigada/ada_letters/issues/sept2003/index.htm

If you are not a SigAda member (and you should be :), you'll have to
wait a couple more months for this to become publicly available.

I was until ACM started spamming me.

It would be better if you posted a caveat about non-working URLs
_Before_ the URL.

The new compiler for the AdaOS project is going to be called ECLAT --
Experimental Compiler Library and Tools -- and I'm afraid it's still very
much at the construction stage at the moment.

I think a reasonable estimate at when the first version will be ready is
2005 or 2006, and it will incorporate the new features of a language
revision, assuming there is one by then (which now seems likely).

The first target will be IA-32 basic (based on the original Compaq386 PC)
standalone. This will produce a directly bootable binary image, requiring
no run time support, but with limitations (e.g. no tasking). Initially,
there will be almost no optimisations.

More targets and optimisations will be progressively added.

There's no website for ECLAT yet. I'll start a project on SourceForge or
BerliOS some time in the future.

If you have access to the Springer-Verlag's Lecture Notes in Computer
Science series you might want to check out "An Invitation to Ada 2005"
by Pascal Leroy on issue 2655 (year 2003).

Is there an HTML/PDF version of it somewhere ?

Thanks,
Pascal.
