I am using linux (mdk 9.1) right now and much to my supprise:

        [jerry@jvdsys jerry]$ gas
        bash: gas: command not found
        [jerry@jvdsys jerry]$ ll /usr/bin/gas
        ls: /usr/bin/gas: No such file or directory
        [jerry@jvdsys jerry]$ ll /usr/bin/as
        -rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root       256684 Feb 15  2003 /usr/bin/as*

No gas, only as.
