From Wikipedia:
In physics, velocity is the measurement of the rate and direction of
change in the position of an object. It is a vector physical quantity;
both magnitude and direction are required to define it. The scalar
absolute value (magnitude) of velocity is speed [...]

If you are going to 'redefine' something than ALL items which
are based upon that definition are subject to change. BTW, there
is no way with which a vector's magnitude can be negative, any
such "negation" would merely flip the point-and-tail of the
vector.
