Not Rabe specifically...  The GoVarmint, in their infinite wisdom, has
written into the GSA High Tech Contract that each and every person on that
contract has to have a "technical" degree.  The institution or subject
matter does not appear to be anywhere near as critical as the fact that it
is a technical degree.

I formerly filled one of the positions now being re-filled.  One major
reason why I am no longer there is that I do not have a "technical" degree.
In spite of the fact that the client stated that he was happy with my work,
an undergraduate in Asian Studies and a doctorate in Cross-cultural Education
does not a "technical" degree make.  Under the terms of the new contract I
would not be permitted to change to any other task (grandfathering was
permitted for the current task) and thus there would be absolutely no
possibility of growth.  In addition I would have almost no seniority with
the new contractor.  C'est la vie...  I am pursuing other opportunities.

P.S.  The lack of a technical degree did not prevent me from teaching
computer science at Boston University, nor did it prevent me from chairing
the X3J9 Pascal Standards Committee for eight years.  Bureaucrats are lost
without explicit requirements, whether they make sense or not...
