I found it very simple to write the multitude of recognizers needed for the Ada, Java, HTML lexers I wrote for OpenToken. Maybe not inspiring, but simple.
OK, forget the HTML lexer - it's unsatisfying. HTML syntax is uncomparable to Ada's.
