Asymptotically the size of messages decreases to zero when a thread dies.
In the short term, however, quote growth in CLA is 14.8% (based on 261
messages) from one message with quotes over its referent with quotes.
Total body length shrinks to 97.9% on successive messages.  The
exponential fits the data quite a bit better than a linear model.

correct, so it must have been his model that was wrong.

  I'm sure that the value of certain people's posts is directly proportional
to their size.  That's usually not the case, however.
