Absolutely. I dabble in a fair few languages, and although I really
like functional languages some of the current languages make some things
which are largely trivial in imperative languages rather difficult or
advanced. IO is a good example.
Functional languages like Erlang, which grow in industry seem to be more
keen to make a sacrifice in purity if it makes things a bit more
convienant, in comparison to others with a largely academic development
like Haskell.
