The May 2004 Dr. Dobb's Journal, contains an editorial:
Quit Buggin' Me!
Jonathan Erickson (jerickson@ddj.com)
Bugs were here long before usno wonder they outsmart us so often.
This editorial includes the following statement:
"On the upside, bugs make good headlines. For instance, the bug
in the on-board guidance computer of Europe's Ariane 5 rocket led
to the destruction of the rocket, costing more than $1 billion."
He then moves onto other examples.
Perhaps he and his readers need a more enlightened response to
this understanding ;-) A nicely worded letter would provide
some Ada PR, and foster a better understanding of that incident.
This may also be a perfect opportunity to advertise a URL that
deals with this in FAQ form as well. I recall there was much
effort expended on this last year. Is that FAQ still available?
