Ada-Europe'97

International Conference on Reliable Software Technologies

"Good software engineering practice, based on appropriate
techniques and supported by suitable tools, is the solution
to the software crisis"

The Tower Hotel, London, 2-6 June 1997

http://www.sis.port.ac.uk/adauk/Ada-Europe/Conference/1997/

The cost of developing and maintaining computer systems is
increasingly dependent on the cost of the software component.
As the requirements of customers get more complex, so too do
the needs of the software engineers who must meet them.

The problems of managing software development are as great as
the problems of engineering the system itself. Good software
engineering practice, based on appropriate techniques
supported by suitable tools, is seen as the solution to this
"software crisis".

Software engineering needs better techniques and tools, and
those that already exist need to be better publicised and
better understood. This conference meets that need.

The 1997 Ada-Europe Conference will be held between 2-6 June
1997 in London's Tower Hotel, overlooking Tower Bridge and
adjacent to the Tower of London.

The Conference aims to bring together users and vendors of
software engineering tools, and those who research and teach
related techniques, to discuss and exchange new developments
and to share good practice.

The Conference will consist of tutorials, presentations and
demonstrations of software engineering products.

Participation in the Conference is invited from all those in
the software engineering community - users, vendors,
educators and researchers.

Schedule

14 October 1996
Submission of extended abstracts and tutorial proposals
20 December 1996
	Notification to authors
21 February 1997
	Final papers (camera-ready) required
2 - 6 June 1997
	Conference

Call for papers

Authors are invited to submit papers on original research or
reports on relevant experience of software engineering
techniques and tools. Suggested topics include but are not
limited to:
* object-oriented analysis, design and programming
* benefits and drawbacks of using formal methods
* managing software development
* experiences of introducing Ada 95
* programming languages for software engineering
* safety-critical software
* systems implemented in more than one programming language
* comparisons of software engineering techniques and tools
* the use of Ada in applications
* teaching software engineering or programming

Extended abstracts (of 3-6 pages) should be submitted to
either of the Co-Programme Chairs. Authors should provide the
following information: title of paper, name of author(s),
author's affiliation, postal and electronic mail addresses,
telephone and fax numbers and a list of keywords ordered by
relevance. Submissions must be in English. Submitting
abstracts by electronic mail is preferred (plain ASCII); if
submitting on paper, please provide 5 copies. Submissions by
fax are not accepted. To enable publication of the accepted
papers before the conference, strict adherence to the dates of
the schedule is essential. The deadline for abstracts is 14
October 1996.

Proceedings will be published in the Springer-Verlag Lecture
Notes in Computer Science series.

Co-Programme Chairs:

Keith Hardy,
Ultra Electronics Ltd Command & Control Systems, Knaves Beech
Business Centre, Loudwater, High Wycombe, Bucks, HP10 9UT, UK

Call for tutorials

A tutorial should address any of the topics of the theme of
the conference or any other topic on Software Engineering. A
tutorial will last a half or full day. The proposals should
include a title, an abstract, a description of the topic, a
detailed outline of the presentation, a description of the
presenter's teaching experience in general and with the
proposed topic, duration (half day or full day), level of the
tutorial (introductory, intermediate, or advanced), expected
audience experience and background. Proposals should be
submitted by email to the Tutorial Chair by the deadline of 14
October 1996.

Call to vendors

Vendors of software engineering tools are invited to
demonstrate their products during the Conference. Priority
will be given to tools relating to object-oriented development
and to products supporting Ada 95.
