Posted here to notify people who might have an interest in establishing
Ada for usage in digital commerce beginning later this year. The SET
mailing list (to join, see quote below) is presently discussing
fundamentals. Currently Web browser or Credit Card companies are
primarily involved.
This may be an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and promote Ada 95 in
context as a foundation before the assured proliferation of SET. The
immediate goal is to create sufficient interest to get SET specified and
implemented early with Ada.
SET is the next big wave of technology nearly everyone will be using.
Access to fundamental software components creates a more positive climate
for smaller developers. Creating SET components is a good idea because
their adoption and spread is very likely as the Internet expands to
handle commerce.
The Credit Card companies expect to see SET operational by the end of
this year. So work must be done soon. Regardless of the outcome of the
SET specification process, we should get organized and strive to be first
to implement the SET specification.
