Hi all,

I'm trying to compile gnat with egcs-1.1b for a Solaris 2.6 machine.

I applyed all the patch given in README.gnat except to Make-lang.in

All is fine (up to bootstrap and gnattools)

but when it comes to compile the gnatlib I've got the following error
message :
../../xgcc -B../../ -c -O -g -v -UIN_GCC -gnatpg -I.
-I../../../egcs-1.1b/gcc/ada a-stwima.adb
Reading specs from ../../specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.57 19980901 (egcs-1.1 release)
 ../../gnat1 -I. -I../../../egcs-1.1b/gcc/ada -quiet -dumpbase
a-stwima.adb -g -gnatpg -O a-stwima.adb -o /var/tmp/cc5FiO7E.s
../../egcs-1.1b/gcc/expr.c:5655: Internal compiler error in function
expand_expr

Did somebody did already uncounter this problem ?

thanks.
xavier

Yes, I did, while trying to compile gnat/egcs on an Intel i586 based
Redhat Linux System. I tried to compile with gcc from the gnat-3.10p
binary distribution, and egcs from Redhat-5.2.
It was doomed :)

I decided to reinstall gcc-2.7.2.3 with the binary from gnat-3.10p,
which worked as per the instructions from the gnat-chat mailing-list.
I'd prefer egcs, though, so if you find out what caused (or fixed !)
your problems, please let me know.

I remember reading about the interaction (or lack thereof) of GNAT with the
EGCS back end. I have tried, but I can't find reference to this information
now. Can GNAT run as a front end to EGCS? I would like to use GNAT in tandem
with cygwin b20.

If you know of links or back articles about this, please point me in the
right direction.

-John

The current version of GNAT is not compatible with the current
version of EGCS. We do not know of any set of patches that
would achieve this compatibility.

You can use GNAT with cygwin if you want (remember that
cygwin is GPL'ed, so this is only a suitable approach if
your application is GPL'ed, or if you get the commercial
version of cygwin (at least this used to be the case, check
the licensing carefully as always).

Future versions of GNAT will be compatible with future versions
of GCC, based on the current EGCS.
