Exactly. A rewrite of the Linux kernel in Ada might be a fun hack, but 
isn't likely to attract the same interest Linux has, since Linux is the 
best Linux out there. 

Take a look at any of the innovative free kernels out there, like 
EROS, http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~eros/. Rewriting EROS in Ada (the EROS
kernel is currently written in C++) would have higher "gee-whiz" value 
IMO.
