Does anybody knows how many ADA95 compilers can seriously be taken in
account to develop under Windows NT ?
- Aonix Objectada
- Gnat
- ?
Who knows about a serious project developped with another one, if it
exists ?
We worry about the absence of competition in this field, and its
possible consequences in the future.
ADA83 compilers can also be listed (Alsys Activada, others ?)

Thanks for any information.

Don't worry, the Justice Department is taking care of that.

Oh wait...you said *Ada* compilers?

There are several compiler vendors listed on: http://www.adapower.com/ I
have some vendors on my links page (see trailer) along with other
resources. I'd suggest looking at their web pages and seeing what
platforms are supported that may work for you. I'm sure the vendors will
also be glad to tell you about their success stories as well.

I have personally used Aonix and GNAT on the PC platform and been
satisfied (for the most part) with the results. RR Software also has a
compiler and a GUI builder for the PC. (I've used the GUI builder and
thought it was reasonably spiffy.)

Are you looking for a success story within a particular problem domain?
(Extremely large development project? Realtime application? Database
application?)

I'am not sure what you call "a serious project", but definitly I've build
some
complex systems with GNAT (and Annexe E - Distributed Systems) under
Windows NT. GNAT under Windows NT is today at the very same level
of maturity than GNAT under UNIX. And BTW, GNAT can build itself under
Windows NT as GNAT is mostly programmed in Ada95. I would call GNAT
a serious project :)

If you are honestly concerned about this then your choice will have to be an
OpenSource choice, GNAT. Then this question is not an issue.

Also Greenhills and Irvine(?).
What language on Windows is offered by the largest number of vendors?

I don't know, but 6 major vendors for Ada on Win32 sounds about as good as
the number of current C++ vendors on Win32.

Rational too. Several years ago they were selling *two* Ada compilers
for NT. I suspect you can't get the old VADS product anymore, though.
