IEEE Project P1003.5a is producing a small update to the 1992 standard, mostly to fix some defects discovered since 1992. 2. IEEE Project P1003.5b (was P1003.20) is producing an Ada binding to the POSIX Real-Time extensions and to the POSIX Threads binding. This standard is currently in ballot. We'll probably 'merge' both P1003.5a and P1003.5b ballots, by producing a single document with sections noting things are in the .5a scope and things that are in the .5b scope. 3. Test Assertions to IEEE Std 1003.5-1992 is producing, as the title imples, a set of tests for .5. This work is being done by a group at Clemson using a technology that should support the automatic generation of a test suite for measuring .5 implementation conformance. This is something that we really need. There is a study group currently examining the possibilities of doing an Ada (95) binding to MOTIF. The primary issue with this work is the non-existence of any Ada95 bindings to MOTIF to use as a starting point. Actually, Dave, you forgot about the two most recent projects...bringing the total to five projects and one study group. The two additional projects are P1003.5c and P1003.5d. These two projects are creating Ada bindings to the POSIX 1003.1g project. The P1003.5c project is creating a binding to the XTI services in 1003.1g and the P1003.5d project is creating a binding to the sockets services in 1003.1g. With these two additional projects, we should have a standard Ada interface to a couple of popular network communications services. In fact, both of these projects could use your assistance. If you would be interested in helping to develop the standards, participating in the ballot process, or you have bindings that we use as a "base" document to work from, please drop me a line or give me a call at work (612-921-6206). I forgot about these new projects... And, Steve is also right that all of the POSIX projects can use interested people. dave -- --The preceeding opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of --The MITRE Corporation or its sponsors. -- "A good plan violently executed -NOW- is better than a perfect plan -- next week" George Patton -- "Any damn fool can write a plan.
