                      The Ada Fault Tolerance Project
                      -------------------------------

Imagine... a single Ada program ... distributed across a mesh of processors 
... with critical tasks replicated to prevent single points-of-failure 
... communicating through backplanes or networks ... while meeting the
demands of real-time response rates!  From the labs of research innovation
and industrial-strength embedded systems, that dream has become reality.

The Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC) has joined
with Computing Devices International and Verdix to craft an integrated set
of distributed Ada facilities and fault tolerant extensions.  Under the
auspices of the Ada Fault Tolerance (AFT) project, MCC has penetrated the
envelope of an Ada program to actively replicate its critical components
and thus provide fault resiliency. AFT attacks the fault tolerance problem
by using software implemented facilities to detect, diagnose, and recover
from hardware faults.  These facilities form a transparent layer between
Verdix's distributed Ada runtime environment and any Ada application
program.
