I recently got this message from a friend.

Hello Greg:

I've noticed that SBIR topic from the Naval Air Systems Command: N93-203
"Software Code Translation from Assembly to Ada", was cancelled. I've
heard rumors that that we are not likely to see any SBIR topics relating
to Ada in the near future unless they are specifically championed by
someone high up in DOD. AND, that the feeling at the Naval Air Systems
Command is that there is not sufficient civilian interest in Ada to make
it worthwhile as an SBIR topic.

Have you heard any rumors about the politics of Ada in the Naval Air
Systems Command?

I haven't heard anything, but given the ability to do whatever you want
as long as you have your colleagues support in any Armed Service branch,
I suspect Tuttle's comments reflect general Navy Ada feelings, now being
reflected in the SBIR termination.

I guess the contradictory policies and statements are really confusing the
services. I myself have noticed the decreasing Ada SBIR activity over the
years, and given the many problems facing Ada, you would expect Ada SBIRs to
be increasing.
