pragma Interrupt_State

Using GNAT GPL 2011 on Snow Leopard, I find that that including the
configuration pragma:

   pragma Interrupt_State(Name => SIGINT, State => USER);

in a build slows down a program of mine by about 50% (it's an assembler and
the pragma reduces its performance from 1.25M SLOC/sec to 0.85M SLOC/sec).

Can anyone suggest why it might have that remarkable effect?
