AdaPower.net is experiencing some technical difficulties (the internet
connection is down at the CO) I am not yet aware of how long it will be
until the connection is restored.

AdaPower.com is unaffected and available as always.

AdaPower.net is still down. AdaPower.net was running on a dedicated SDSL
business class line from NorthPoint, which of course is now no longer......
I have already aranged service from another provider, but things have been
slow in coming. I hope to restore AdaPower.net with in a week and a half.

Sorry for any inconveniences.

AdaPower.net is back on-line and accessable as usual from www.adapower.net

I am sorry for the long delay in having the server down, but it is back up
and all mirrors are functioning.

AdaPower.net is temp off line. AdaPower.COM is not affected.

It seems that my account (and perhaps root) was compromised :-(

Although it seems this was done a fairly long time ago and the damage
limited to some one passing along some files or the like.

On the bright side, it forced me to push ahead with an upgrade and change to
Linux I planned some time ago. AdaPower.net is coming back on a new server
(already up). I'll be rebuilding the mirror sites on it soon and will have
to see what can be done with the user accounts.

Any one know of a way to port over passwords from a FreeBSD system to a
Linux system?

You should be able to copy the encrypted password field of /etc/passwd or of
the
shadow password file, and perhaps the entire file -- I don't remember
whether
the file formats differ between Linux and BSD.

It is not a FreeBSD/Linux issue, it is a password format issue: if you used
MD5 passwords under FreeBSD and want to use DES passwords under Linux, then
you have to remake a brand new map (passwords are one-way hashes, in both
schemes, and the hashes are not related).

David, as one of your grateful users, I'd recommend that you not
carry over the old passwords, but instead require all users to
set a new one. Just on general paranoid principle:-)

Linux supports MD5-passwords, too.

OK, AdaPower.net mirrors are being run now:

The Libre site (GtkAda, AWS, etc., confirmed the binaries are also being
mirrored)
The Booch Components (already done)
GnuAda.org

Selinux seems to be something one should also keep a note of. It is not
a distribution, but NSAs security-enhanced Linux kernel. More info:

Well, really Linux doesn't care squat what the userspace does WRT
logins. Most distributions built on Linux use pam.

So it could be anything. =)
