We have had some interesting commercial use of Ada83 for some
time. The engines we make for the Boeing 777 have Ada83 programmed
control systems. We have also done a rocket engine control in
Ada83 and this was part military & part commercial - but in no
case was done because of "The Mandate".
Ada95 is a little new for us, given the lifespan of our embedded
systems. We have a new commercial engine in the works which will
be programmed in Ada95 - but we aren't even through
processor/compiler selection on that one yet. We have also
developed a number of internal tools using Ada95 and even though
we are the "government engine business" these internal tools do
not fall under any Mandate and are not deliverables. The language
choice there was strictly on the basis of what made the most
economic sense to use.
You might try checking out the Ada Information Clearinghouse.
(They have a website: http://sw-eng.falls-church.va.us/AdaIC/ )
Also look at the Home Of The Brave Ada Programmers:
http://www.adahome.com/ Both sites will have some information
about Ada usage in non-government projects.
