To obtain an electronic copy of MIL-STD-498 you must have a
computer that has access to the internet with ftp capability.

          Using a command line interface:

*Please type the text that is inside the quotes but not the
           quotation marks themselves.
*Please type text exactly as shown including case.

Type the following at a command prompt:

          "ftp diamond.spawar.navy.mil<return>".

          For user name type: "anonymous<return>".
For user password type your email address, e.g.,
          "majorsd@smtp-gw.sparar.navy.mil<return>".

After login type:"cd MIL498<return>". (note that MIL is upper case)

In the MIL 498 directory there are two files one is 498-zip.exe
          and the other is readme.txt.
          At the ftp prompt type:
          "tenex<return>".

Then at the ftp prompt type:
          "get 498-zip.exe<return>".

          Then type:

          "ascii<return>"

          Now type:

          "get readme.txt<return>".

          After complete, type:

          "bye<return>".

          Type "logout<return>".

Using a generic Windoze based FTP.

Type "diamond.spawar.navy.mil<return>" as the remote host name.

Type "anonymous<return>" as the user name.

Type your email address as the password, e.g.,
          "majorsd@smtp-gw.spawar.navy.mil<return>".

Set the file type for transfer of 498-zip.exe to binary.
Set the file type for transfer of readme.txt to ascii.

Please see the readme file for more info
