CALL FOR INPUT TO TAILORING REPORT

RFP Tailoring Recommendations For DOD-STD-2167A & Ada

As a working group under SIGAda, the Software Development Standards and Ada
Working Group (SDSAWG) was formed in 1987 with the following objectives:

- Discover and publicize where software development standards inhibit good Ada
Software development practices.
- Recommend constructive corrections to the standard's preparing authorities.
- Provide a forum for discussing software development standards.

In 1991, the RFP Tailoring Recommendations Subgroup was formed to focus on
tailoring issues related to DOD-STD-2167A (Defense System Software
Development) and Ada usage. This subgroup has the following ovjectives:

- Consider problems identified by the Software Development Standards and Ada
Working Group (SDSAWG) and other sources.
- Provide sample Statement of Work (SOW) and Contract Data Requirements List
(CDRL) templates for use in future procurements.
- Reflect in the templates proposed wording for software sections of the SOW
andCDRL items, which may be used by contractors to propose tailoring
recommendations in response to draft Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or Governmen
t
personnel in preparing RFPs and contracts.

The Tailoring Recommendations Subgroup plans to publish a draft report in
July '92, and the final in March '93. To gain as much insight into the
tailoring problem and potential solutions as possible, we welcome RFPs,
presentations, papers, articles, or other information sources. We are
particularly interested in hearing from people with: (1) "first-hand
experience" developing software in Ada and in accordance with DOD-STD-2167A,
and (2) "workable solutions" for the problems encountered.
