Sorry if this is a FAQ, but an unconnected (to the internet :-)
friend needs some pointers to successful AI projects that have used
Ada. Any help would be much appreciated ...

Regards,

There is an annual conference in the Washington area called AIDA
(AI and Ada), with lots of interesting discussions about the
interface between AI applications and Ada. One of the most involved
people in this conference is Prof. Jorge Diaz-Herrera of George
Mason University (jdiaz@gmuvax.gmu.edu).

There's at least one book on the subject,
Artificial Intelligence in the Ada Environment, by L. Baker.
  McGraw Hill 1989.
This book shows some LISP-ish applications in Ada, and describes
a number of useful packages for AI problems. Have a look at it.

At the risk of boring readers by repeating myself, the
HeapGuard(tm) project was an AI system written in Ada
. The AI part was an Ada Fuzzy Expert System (AFES)
with rules to guide a pilot to target 1 or target 2 or
to home base depending upon real-time inputs from the
Silicon Graphics flight simulator and conditions such as
"fuel is low" "threat is high" etc.
If you are interested in parts or all of this project
let me know and I'll excerpt parts of the final report
for you. We haven't written a paper on the entire system,
just the dynamic memory management part.
If you want the entire final report I may have to
ask for a reproduction fee (its tough to be poor).

ps: to those who requested a copy of the Naecon 91
HeapGuard paper, its in the mail.
