In response to Steve Lawrence:

     If you use Qemm or similar, and use the first 64 or 96 K above
640 K, then you solve all of the memory crowding problems.  You can 
also use the last 16 K of page 0.
     You give up graphics, but the compiling doesn't need them; only
the running if you need graphics.
