I quite understand that in the (to me) sloppy kind of
environment you are envisioning there could be a problem,
and I am glad that the emacs change helps bullet proof
you from this mistake, but I will say again, that I think
that any configuration control system that lets you accidentally
undo changes is broken.

It really all depends on what you are looking for. It sounds
like you are looking for a very light weight system, where
following the rule of always using emacs mostly bails you out
of this kind of error, but I certainly would not rely on that
in my environment.
