An  Operating  System  Standard  for  the Navy's Next Generation Computer
Resources (NGCR)

Time: Wednesday, 12:15 - 1:15 pm

Description:   To meet the Navy's operational requirements a new approach to
standardization has been defined which will allow technology currency,
leverage of industry investment and competition through adoption of joint
Navy/Industry standards for all major facets of computer hardware and
software. The overall NGCR program will be described, then the operating
system interface portion of this effort will be discussed in more detail. Ada
is the language of choice but presents its own set of issues from the
perspective of developing joint standards.

Topic: GAO report -- Programming Language: Status, Costs and Issues Associated
with Defense's Implementation of Ada

Description: Representatives of the General Accounting Office will present 
their findings and recommendations from their recently published (March 89)
study of the Defense Department's Implementation of Ada. The briefing is 
expected to last approximately 30 minutes; Q&A period will follow.
