An Operating System Standard for the Navy's Next Generation Computer
Resources (NGCR)

Time: Wednesday, 12:15 - 1:15 pm

Description: To meet the Navy's operational requirements a new approach to
standardization has been defined which will allow technology currency,
leverage of industry investment and competition through adoption of joint
Navy/Industry standards for all major facets of computer hardware and
software. The overall NGCR program will be described, then the operating
system interface portion of this effort will be discussed in more detail. Ada
is the language of choice but presents its own set of issues from the
perspective of developing joint standards.

Speaker(s): CDR Rick Barbour, U.S. Navy SPAWAR
            Tricia Oberndorf, NADC
