Graphics notations for representation of Ada design have been in common use
for the past half-decade. Several forms of notation, while not standardized
by any recognized organization, have such widespread use as to be considered
de-facto standards. However, each of these forms is currently subject to
widespread tailoring and evolution to meet the needs of Ada users.
Specifical tailorings involve representations of generics and instantiation,
data typing and subtyping, and exceptions. In addition, representations are
being developed to support object-oriented Ada-based languages.
A workshop on graphics design representations for Ada programs will be held
at the TRI-Ada in Pittsburgh. This workshop will concentrate on the
standardization and evolution of notational schemes in use for Ada programs.
The workshop will publish a proceedings including accepted position papers
of attendees.
The goals of this workshop will be to identify common symbolic
representations of Ada programs and extensions. Areas of concentration
include representational schemes for: generic declaration and instantiation;
use and reference notation; flow control; object-oriented Ada-based language
representations (including inheritance, and instances); and exception
declaration, handling and propagation.
The workshop will run in parallel with the TRI-Ada tutorials, Monday October
23, 1989.
The workshop will be limited to 25 participants. Prospective participants
should submit a position paper of no more than 3000 words to:

Graphics examples of proposed notational evolution are encouraged as part of
the position paper. The workshop will focus discussion about: (1) intuitive
understanding of the representations; (2) conflicts with other established
representations; (3) ease of production and readability; (4) ease of
automation and tool support.
Electronic mail submission is preferred. Because of the limited
accommodation, it is requested that multiply co-authored papers identify the
principle author for attendance.
Important dates: September 22, 1989 Position papers due.
October 2, 1989 Notification of acceptance.
October 23, 1989 Workshop at TRI-Ada
