VADS on Irix 6.4

VADS on Irix 6.4

Good day,

We have AXM 6.2.2 (VADS), and would like to install it on an SGI
Octane, with Irix 6.4.  The installation instructions indicate
that the software may run on Irix 5.2 or higher.  However, we end
up with the following problem after installation:

sup/a.install.sgi: sup/check_enable: cannot execute

testing self...
 compiling and linking test program...
fe line 0, char 0:fatal: failed to setrlimit()
 executing test program...

VADS is not installed correctly, check the
Release Notes and try again.
 Removing temporary files ... Done
----

....the reason it failed is because "check_enable" is a "COFF executable"
which is no longer supported in Irix 6.2 and above...it is the only file
in "/usr/vads" that is a "COFF executable"...

Is there any way around this problem?  I get the same error
("failed to setrlimit()") any time I try and compile...
Has anyone made VADS work in 6.2 or higher?  Any help would be
