The detailed description can be obtained from the USPTO web site [1].

The patent covers binary data stored on secondary storage devices on
systems running a portable operating system such as UNIX.  According
to the patent, the prior art consists of writing conversion programs
for every pair of CPU architectures, which must be run when data is
moved from one system to another when the systems have different CPU
architectures.  The allegedly novel idea is to write the data in a
cannonical format, making it unnecessary to run conversion programs
when moving files or file systems.
