 In order to develop RT-AI programs in Ada, the need for good performances
 using an inference engine might be crucial.

 I am looking for references and/or already existing inferece mechanisms
 in Ada. The implementation of an inference engine in Ada is apparently more
 efficient in terms of performances than AI shell/ language interfaced with ada
 like Prologue (of course all depends of the user-implementation). If somebody
 already heard about it or ever experimented such mechanism implementation, i
 would be very grateful to hear of it.

 Is it realistic to do so, and to develop AI software for special purpose in
 Ada ?

   First, look in the AI directory of the Ada Software Repository
   (email to ADA-SW-REQUEST@WSMR-SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL for details);
   there is an expert system already written, which can be had for
   the cost of sending mag tapes to the Repository and back. Also,
   there have been a number of conferences specifically on the topic
   (e.g., AIDA '89, the Fifth Annual Conference on Artificial
   Intelligence & Ada), and the proceedings of those conferences
   might prove to be most useful. Try contacting AIDA@GMUVAX.GMU.EDU,
   or write the Department of Computer Science at George Mason University.
