Availability of Ada on a PC

   I am thinking of doing a book on advanced programming techniques 
   (operating system kernal sorts of things).  Such a book would be used by
   upper division college students and others wishing to learn advanced
   software techniques.  I plan to supply the source for all the software
   discussed in the book on a disk to be supplied with the book.  For such 
   a project I need a systems level implementation langauge.  I do not want 
   to use C, for reasons which should be clear to anyone interested in Ada.
   Pascal is not a possibility for because standard Pascal would not serve 
   the purpose and mutant Pascal is not standard.  My other alternatives
   are Modula-2 and Ada.

   My question for you out in net land is: does there exist an Ada
   implementation which will run on the IBM PC, PC/XT or Fat MacIntosh.
   I do not expect fully validated MIL-STD Ada, but I need an
   implementation which will allow me to write real systems software in
   real Ada.  The compiler and associated packages should not cost more 
   than $500 and should not compile much slower than 50 lines/min.

   Modula-2 meets the above criteria, but I thought that I would look into
   Ada before making a final decision.  If there is sufficient response I
   will sumarize for the net.
