ADA COURSEWARE AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET
Topic: Ada

Since 1992, the Department of Defense has supported efforts to encourage
development of undergraduate and graduate courses in Ada and software
engineering. The most recent effort was supported by the Defense
Information Systems Agency's Ada Joint Program Office (AJPO), in which
educators were awarded contracts for developing Ada 95 Courseware. Two
such courseware offerings, developed by Dr. Bo Sanden of George Mason
University, Fairfax, VA, are as follows:

1. "A Course in Real-time Software Design Based on Ada 95"

The course starts with an overview of the Ada 95 syntax for tasks and
protected units. The rest of the material shows how to design concurrent
software. The emphasis is on practical, real-time applications. The
examples go far beyond those textbook examples commonly used to
illustrate syntactical features and issues such as mutual exclusion and
deadlock.

2. "An Ada-based foundation course for a graduate information-systems
program"

This course is intended as a foundation course in programming for
students entering a graduate Information-Systems program. It is primarily
intended for students with little or no programming experience,
particularly in a Pascal-style language. In this course, Ada replaces
Pascal as a more modern and also more practically useful language.

Training page on the AdaIC Web site

NEW DOCUMENT ON THE DII COE WEB SITE
Topic: DII, COE

New to the CFCSE-IC DII COE Web site is the "I&RTS Review and Assessment -
11/4/97". This document assesses the current I&RTS specification as to
its completeness, mission-effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and the
probability of success from an internal DoD and external commercial
acceptance perspective.

DII COE LISTSERV HELPING WITH Q & A
Topic: DII, COE

The DISA Computer Systems Engineering Information Clearinghouse (CSEIC)
has developed a Defense Information Infrastructure (DII) Common Operating
Environment (COE) Listserv. The DII COE Listserv provides an unmoderated
forum for COE developers and users to disseminate information, share
ideas and lessons learned, collaborate, and post questions and answers.

Messages may be received through the user's e-mail reader, or, for those
who do not wish to subscribe to the listserv, messages may be viewed
through an organized archive on the CSEIC WWW site at:

To subscribe to the DII COE Listserv, send a message to:
        mailto:listproc@sw-eng.falls-church.va.us
In the body of the message, write:
