REPORT HELPS PROGRAM MANAGERS & SOFTWARE ENGINEERS WITH LANGUAGE SELECTION
Topic: Ada

To assist Program Managers and Software Engineers with the crucial
selection of programming languages and the allocation of resources, the
AdaIC has placed the presentation entitled "Programming Languages and
Life Cycle Costs" on its Web Site. The presentation provides the
quantitative date on life cycle cost implications of programming language
use. Results of referenced language studies are presented regarding the
impact of language selection on productivity, program integration,
reliability, maintenance and cost. Experiences and data are documented
from several projects to validate the life cycle implications. The
presentation concludes with a summary of the findings for each of the
cost factors identified throughout the presentation.

A link to the Presentation can be found on the following Web Page:

NEW ADA COMPONENTS AT THE ARMY REUSE CENTER (ARC)
Topics: Ada, Reuse

Recent additions to the ARC Library include the components
"OPEN_THE_DATABASE" and "SPAWAR_GEO_DATA_CLASS."

OPEN_THE_DATABASE (10d00f5) is an Ada package that reads an ASCII text
file in order to determine the current database path. Three exceptions
may be raised from this RSC. A project may reuse this code with no
modifications.

SPAWAR_GEO_DATA_CLASS (10d003x2) is an Ada package that defines a
heterogeneous class of objects for the Geographical_Data_Class.

For more information on the ARC Library and these components, visit the
ARC Home Page at: <http://arc_www.belvoir.army.mil>.

REUSE TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
Topic: Reuse

The Army Reuse Center's mission is to develop, maintain and administer
the Army's total reuse program supporting the entire software development
life cycle, and thus help the Army fulfill the DOD objective to institute
reusable, maintainable, and reliable software. Based upon the ARC's
experiences in supporting multiple software reuse initiatives, the ARC
has found that a six-step comprehensive software reuse process to be of
value in establishing and evaluating a software reuse program. These
steps are:

1. Develop a Reuse Implementation Strategy (RIS)
2. Perform a Reuse Technology Assessment (RTA)
3. Develop a Reuse Implementation Plan (RIP)
4. Implement the RIP
5. Produce a Reuse Metrics Report (RMR)
6. Perform a Reuse Progress Assessment (RPA)

The full RTA report may be accessed at:
