AIR FORCE TO EXPAND SOFTWARE REUSE PROJECT
Topic: Reuse

The Air Force awarded contracts to Hughes Aircraft Co., Raytheon Co., and
TRW Inc. under a $500 million program that could dramatically reduce the
cost and development time of major command and control software programs.

The four-year Command and Control Product Line (CCPL) program, run by
Electronic Systems Center, will expand the department initiative for
taking software code developed for one project and later using it in
future development efforts.

The Air Force expects its contractors to make as much use as possible of
existing software assets.

NEW AJPO CHIEF RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB
Topic: Ada

Lt. Col. John "Drew" Hamilton, interim chief of the Ada Joint Program
Office (AJPO), was handpicked by his predecessor Charles Engle. "He's
not just technically qualified," said Engle. "He also knows the military
culture, the Pentagon, the political atmosphere."

"Drew is a great choice," said Robert Dewar, president of Ada Core
Technologies. "Chuck [Engle] did a great job too, but it's good to see
the mantle passed to someone who will carry on the work."

the AJPO job," Government Computer News, March 3, 1997, v.16, n.5, p.45.
