Software Engineering News Brief
Week Ending: January 10, 1997

ADA INFORMATION CLEARINGHOUSE WEB PAGES REDESIGNED
Topic: Ada

The AdaIC World Wide Web pages were recently redesigned with three goals
in mind: Reduce the size of graphics on the main and sub pages; Maximize
user access to AdaIC information; and Increase the visability and usage of
AdaIC on-line databases.

>From the main page users may go to a browsable directory of information
on a particular Ada subject area either by clicking on one of the green
header boxes or by selecting from the pull-down navigational window.
Links are provided under each of the Ada subject areas for the AdaIC's
most popular pages and files.

The AdaIC maintains databases that track Ada education and training,
products and tools, projects, compilers, publications, and other Internet
resources. In order to more easily access the wealth of information in these
databases, users may now execute both keyword searches and search on
particular fields. Many titles, organizations, and tools are contained
within scrollable lists for browsing, and search results contain links to
the actual search item when available.

In order to speed up the load time of the AdaIC Web pages, the
graphics on the main and sub pages were reduced in size. Thus, the
graphics can still serve as visual navigational clues, without impeding
access to the actual information.

The AdaIC WWW pages can be viewed at:

IEEE REUSE STANDARDS COMMITTEE TO MEET JANUARY 16,17 IN CLEAR LAKE
Topic: Reuse

The Advanced Reuse Technologies Group and Cimarron will be co-hosting the
inaugural meeting of the IEEE Reuse Standards Committee (RSC) on January
16th and 17th at the Cimarron building located on Nasa Road One in Clear
Lake. The goal of the RSC is to build upon the efforts of the Reuse
Interoperability Group (RIG) by expanding the development of reuse
standards. The RIG group laid a good foundation regarding reuse library
standards. The RSC will continue the work of the RIG in the development
of standards for reuse library interfaces. All work currently in
progress will be continued. In addition to the work of the RIG, the RSC
will broaden its scope to all reuse related standard activities within
the IEEE. Some recommendations for standardization include:

     * Standard describing "Fundamental Principles of Software Reuse"
     * Standard describing "Domain Analysis"
     * Reuse Supplement to the 12207 life cycle standard
     * Reuse Supplement to the SPICE standard

Furthermore, the RSC will initiate and coordinate other reuse-related
efforts as appropriate and coordinate with other US and International
Standards Organization.

For more information, contact Gary D. Boetticher, Advanced Reuse
Technologies Group, at: Tel: 281/461-8300; e-mail: <gdb@cs.wvu.edu>.

Authors are invited to prepare an extended abstract (2-4 pages) and
submit two copies of the abstract to Dave Cook by 15 March 1997. Authors
of accepted papers will be notified by 30 March 1997 with full papers in
electronic form postscript and paper camera ready form due by 15 May
1997. Proceedings will be published and distributed at the symposium and
electronically.

Papers must be original and of high quality. All submitted abstracts will
be anonymously refereed for their significance, clarity and originality.
Submission of an abstract is considered evidence that the author has obtained
clearance from his organization for publication, that the author (if
selected) will prepare a full paper and present it at the symposium, and
that the paper will not be presented at any other prior symposium.

Submissions via Snail Mail or email: (Postscript or MS Word 6.0 for
Windows) to:
