RATIONAL ROSE TOOL USED IN IBM JAVA-BASED SOFTWARE REUSE PROJECT
Topic: Reuse

Rational Software Corporation announced today that it is working with
IBM on its shareable frameworks software initiative, called the San Francisco
Project. IBM's San Francisco Project chose Rational's visual modeling tool,
Rational Rose, to design, engineer, and bring its shareable software
components to market.

The San Francisco Project is an IBM initiative in which more than 75
independent software providers worldwide are participating. This project
is open to broad industry participation that will provide a series of
high-level application frameworks that can be used to build
business-critical, multiplatform applications. San Francisco frameworks,
such as general ledger, accounts receivable, order processing, and
warehouse management, will enable developers to reduce the time and
expense of developing and maintaining customized business solutions.

RATIONAL RELEASES NEW VERSION OF SOFTWARE-DEVELOPMENT
ENVIRONMENT FOR ADA 95
Topic: Ada

Rational Software Corporation announced availability of a new version of
its Rational Apex Ada 95/83 software-development environment for native
and embedded-systems development. Rational Apex is an integrated,
interactive, team-oriented programming environment that simplifies the
process of building and managing Ada applications. Rational Apex Ada
95/83 version 2.2 adds support for all of the major Ada 95 features for
both object-oriented and real-time programming to its support for the Ada
83 programming language.

Ada 95 represents a major enhancement in the capabilities and appeal of
Ada for large-scale software development. It provides in-depth support
for object-oriented programming and features a series of significant
improvements to Ada's support for real-time embedded systems. Ada 95,
like Ada 83, is defined by a stable, well-articulated international
standard that makes Ada applications highly portable across
implementations.
