CLEMSON ADA 95 COURSEWARE AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET

Since 1992, the Department of Defense has supported efforts to encourage
development of undergraduate and graduate courses in Ada and software
engineering. The most recent effort was supported by the Defense
Information Systems Agency's Ada Joint Program Office (AJPO), in which
educators were awarded contracts for developing Ada 95 Courseware.

The latest Ada Courseware project to be made available on the Internet,
"The Integration of Ada 95 and Software Engineering into a Computer
Science Curriculum Using Closed Laboratories," was developed by the
Department of Computer Science at Clemson University. The results of
this project are two sets of laboratory exercises. The first set uses
Ada to introduce first year students to the fundamental concepts of
object-oriented software development. The second set of laboratory
exercises, intended for a high level course and written in C++, interfaces
with the Ada material presented in introductory courses.

The Clemson University Project is available on the AdaIC WWW site at
<http://sw-eng.falls-church.va.us/AdaIC/ed-train/baa/Ada_lab_development>
and on the Clemson University WWW site at
<http://www.cs.clemson.edu/~lab101>.

Additional University Ada Courseware available through the AdaIC WWW page,
<http://sw-eng.falls-church.va.us/AdaIC/ed-train/baa95crs.htm>, include
the following:

Florida Institute of Technology-- (1)Ada for Non-Computer Science Majors;
(2)Software Engineering Transition Course in Ada.

Drexel University-- Ada 95 Matrix Package.

Florida International University-- Ada-Based Two Semester Introductory
CS/SW/SE Course.

University of Alabama--Ada Curriculum Development Workship.

Montana State University-- Ada in a Four-Course, Breadth-First, Computer
Science Curriculum.

University of Maryland-University College-- Advanced Course Sequence in Ada.

Auburn University-- Advanced Programming in Ada.

Santa Clara University-- Data Structures with Ada 95.

University of Scranton-- Data Structures and Algorithms.

Penn State University-- OO Programming and Software Engineering with Ada
95 and C++.

York College/CUNY-- Design and Implementation of a Software Course for
Undergraduates.

Temple University-- OO Software Engineering with Ada 95.

SUNY-Binghamton-- Teaching Formal Methods Using Ada and Related Analysis
and Synthesis Tools.

Cal Poly-SLO-- A New Laboratory Approach to Ada Instruction.

Visit the AdaIC WWW site often for the latest Ada/Ada 95 Courseware
additions.

IEEE AND ACM TEAM UP TO PROMOTE SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

The IEEE Computer Society and the ACM have established a Joint Steering
Committee for the Establishment of Software Engineering as a Profession.
The Committee is currently asking software engineers, especially those
working in the areas of real-time and safety critical systems, to complete a
survey that will help better define the occupation of Software Engineer.

The survey is available on the WWW at: <http://notes.computer.org/se>.

RELIABLE SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGIES (ADA-EUROPE '97) CALL FOR PAPERS

Because an earlier call had (unintentionally) only limited circulation,
the Ada-Europe conference call for papers is being re-issued with later
closing dates:

for extended abstracts (3-6 pages): 21st November 1996
for full papers: 31st December 1996

Ada-Europe 97 is being held June 2-6, 1997 in London, England. For more
information, write to: Ada-Europe Conference Administrator, PO Box 322,
York Y01 3GY, England.  Tel:  +44 1904 412740.  Fax:  +44 1904 426702.

New Ada/C++ COMPARISON ON THE WEB

A new study comparing Ada and C++ can be found on the World Wide Web at
<http://sw-eng.falls-church.va.us/AdaIC/docs/present>.  The report, in a
slide presentation format, by Dr. Chuck Engle, Chief of the Ada Joint
Program Office (AJPO), offers a detailed look at why using Ada is a
better choice than using C++.
