Right on, Robert!
That's why I drive my Ada students (at the University of Dayton) absolutely
NUTS by talking so much about style, readability, etc.

If the code is not reasonably formatted, then it's difficult to read, hence
difficult to understand; hence difficult to get right (not to mention that
minor activity called "maintenance")!
