I should also point out that the last time I tried an HPPA bootstrap
of GNAT using the current GCC development sources, it would
successfully bootstrap even at -O2.

So whatever bug in the HP PA config files was that caused this
problem, it has since been fixed, though integrating this fix into
GNAT if the next version of GCC is not released before the HPPA port
is supported is indeed additional work.
