Ada News Brief
Week Ending: April 5, 1996

NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL SUPPORTS Ada 95!

On March 22, 1996, the Computer Science Department at the
Naval Postgraduate School made the decision to use Ada 95 as
the first computer language in its graduate education.

The change to Ada 95 is significant not only because it will
require the use of Ada 95 by students in courses taught at
the school but because it will encourage Adas use in
research projects leading to theses, and more importantly,
in solving open research questions plaguing DoD research
scientists. According to Dr. Luqi, Professor of Computer
Science and Chair of Software Engineering, the change to Ada
95 will affect all of the Naval Postgraduate students as
well as distance learning graduate students from DoD and
Government labs. Their theses will directly impact DoD &
Navy Software R&D projects.

use Ada in their courses and participants are expected to
initiate a curriculum project to be completed during the
1996-97 academic year.

The workshop will be held at Illinois State University, June
